good ways to get an appy's mane and tail longer?
i have an appy/arab cross
so he has more hair than MOST average appaloosa's but I want his mane to be longer and his tail to be longer!
any good tips??
he is a very good weight and has a beautiful shine to his coat so he is very healthy, i like MTG and i have used it before
someone told me to put in mane and tail conditioner or mtg's and keep his tail in a tube sock or tail sock for about a month and it will grow like crazy
is that true? i won't damage his tail by leaving it in a bag for a month?
he is a pasture horse i don't want the tail bag to get caught on anything, i have tons of fly spray to use so i'm not worried about him not using his tail for the flies
but let me know any ideas would be great! Thanks!!!
and any products, please provide links!
THANKS!
i have a classic appaloosa mare and when we bought her as an 8 year old, she hardly had a tail to her name. we did what you mentioned and bagged her tail, but first we put in MTG. her tail grew at least 6-10 inches since then but it can be a bit of hassle bagging the tail. you have to take it out and rinse the MTG out once every 2 weeks or so and brush it through. but other than that, it's basically maintaince free!
oh and i recommend using equispot for fly control. it's like frontline for dogs. you apply on certain areas of the body and it keeps the flies at bay for 2 weeks. it's very effective on it's own, but with a tail bag, i usually would spray the rump area with regular fly spray as a preventative.
and for the tail bag, i suggest buying one with long tassles on the ends to act as a fly swatter.
good luck!
