info on tank toppers?

I am looking to buy a 10 gallon tank topper for Betty my Syrian- I think she is out growing the critter trail- I do have 2 connected together but she seems to have to squeeze to get into the tubes now- anyways does anyone have a metal tank topper? I looked at them on e bay $40 free shipping good deal BUT...the whole top is wire and the squares of the wire look big like her feet would fall through- any info before I spend this kind of money would be helpful Thanks Linda

Okay, here's the problem with the tank toppers... the hammies like to stay in the bottom aquarium part burrowed in the bedding or hiding in a box or lil igloo, tucked away all nice and warm. They will go up the other levels if you put their food and other stuff up there... but the tank topper set up is a pain to clean IMO. Plus keeping a pet in a tank is not the greatest... but it'll due in a pinch with a hamster. You can always line the topper wire floors with newspaper and toss it when you clean the cage or more often - or make a pattern for easier cutting of the paper, or for making a floor with vinyl floor tiles. Now for what you're going to spend for the tank topper... you can get a decent cage with better air flow and easier to clean, etc. If you have 2 Crittertrails connected and they are the large ones - they're fine, other than they fall apart, are a pain to clean, and a thousand other problems they have.
