Getting rid of flies in my garage?
We have a real bad problem with flies in our garage. I have tired everything...the wather bags (doesn't work worth a crap) the fly strips work but only for awhile, fly spray (again, only work for awhile) I have cleaned up my garage and garbage outside of the garage and they still come around. I heard about spraying vineager around doors but does that really work? Probably just as well as the bags of water (which doesn't) I have also been told using a half empty beer bottle and putting it out and it will attract flies...it does work but then you get more. I guess you would have to put it outside. have fly swatters but that's getting gross. also heard of hainging clear 2 liter bottles and fill them alittle with sugar water or soda, pole a few holes around the bottle and the flies go in but can't figure out how to get out...does that work at all?? I need a SURE FIRE way to get rid or minimise my fly problem...can't anyone help?
Try spreading mollasses or something across a big piece of wood. They'll get stuck then you can throw away the wood. If you have that many, it probably needs to be something big for them to all land on. We have a problem with those stupid little fruit flies. We tried the flypaper thing and the fly strips, but the things that work best are putting little bits of stuff that's sweet and sticky (like soda, juice, ice cream, fruit, etc) in cups and putting them all over the house. They get stuck in there and then we can just wash them down the drain or throw the cup away. So try that with the soda bottle technique you mentioned. We might actually try that ourselves. You need to keep cleaning them all out every day as soon as possible, or else some of them will figure out how to escape, go reproduce, and then not fall for the same trick again.
Try going to your local Home Depot and ask if they have any kind of big fly traps too. They might have other things that work well.
You can also try getting a small aquarium and some frogs/toads. Don't put a screen on the top, let the flies be able to fly in and out of the aqaurium. Just put something they want near the tank so they'll go near it. See if the frogs are able to catch them.
Good luck!!!
