what weight fly rod should you use for Guadalupe bass.?
There's a reason they call it a Texas trout, And I need to know what weight to use. I have a five weight but I was thinking i need a three or four weight.
a 5wt will get you by but l think a 6 or even 7 would be preferable.
the problem isn't so much the size of the fish but the size and bulk of the lures you will be throwing. bass flies are quite bulky and you need the heavier line to get them out there. you aren't throwing a #18 hendrickson at them. something more on the lines of a mouse or crayfish.
put a 6wt weight forward on your extra spool. the rod will handle it. that should handle some of the small to medium bass flies.
