Like white jade or a piece of cloud he stands
Throughout the clarity of autumn light.
This peerless, royal eagle countermands
All that the hunters do for his afright.
He mocks their nets; sharp arrows cannot soul
Scorns on the falconer's armlet to alight
He frightens the huge roc, his royal goal,
Not the frail, timorous rabbit scurrying to a hole
his mightier partner, a black eagle, flies.
I hardly believed there could be such a bird!
Perhaps he issues from the arctic skies?
Surely, no falconer has ever heard
Of such a one! At night his wings have stirred
The airs of the Sun Terrace. Geese and daws
Have fled in terror. his vast wings have whirred
high on the peaks of Wu. All birds must pause
Dreading his golden eyes and those white, fearful claws!
the title is Two Eagles (talking about 2 eagles)
But I know not of literary terms but know of life and the eagles plight.
That this writer must have seen him in his great flight.
It is a nice poem. My interpretation is of someone most likely long ago wrote this comparing the eagle hunting to the falcon hunting who is much smaller. The eagle as a hunter must be observed which is rare these days. They are magnificent in flight as he describes and gains respect from other feathered wonders. Still he has not survived well has he? This due to human encroachment and insensitivity towards life. Do you write poetry and what would they be ?
