Which Fly rod should I get?
I am looking for a 5-6 wt. 8'6" 2 to 4 section rod. I use it for river trout with fly sizes ranging between #12 to #18. I would like to spend less than $200 for the rod. I have narrowed it down to the following rods:
Orvis Clearwater II (http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=28PR&dir_id=758&group_id=759&cat_id=5825&subcat_id=7015)
St. Croix Imperial (http://www.stcroixrods.com/product/imperial-fly)
Cabela's LSi (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Fishing-Rods/Fly-Fishing-Rods|/pc/104793480/c/104764680/sc/105573780/Cabelas-LSi-Fly-Rods/1089200.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-fishing-rods-fly-fishing-rods%2F_%2FN-1104841%2B10000052%2FNe-10000052%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105573780%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104793480%253Bcat104764680%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104764680%3Bcat105573780)
Please let me know if you have any opinion on which of these rods would be best or any other rods you would recommend. Thanks.
The Orvis will be an easier rod to cast accurately, because it is a little slower action than the St Croix or Cabelas high modulus models. Conversely the Orvis will be more difficult to get added distance the higher speed rods are designed for. A little practice with any of these models will result in satisfactory performance in any situation.
All three are good values for the cost.
